We all know the huge number of benefits you gain from exercising on a regular basis. From mental health improvement, weight loss, increased self confidence, etc you should now be convinced that exercising is your ticket to longevity.

Here are some simple steps to get going…..

Health Check:  If you are new or haven't exercised in a long time, it is a good idea to check in with your family doctor to reduce the risk of injury or health problems.

Journal:
Use an old fashioned book or piece of paper and start with the following…

Set Your Goal:

Focus on one goal at a time

Make it measurable to track progress

Make it achievable such as going for 20 minute walk daily, trying a new exercise, stretching daily, etc

Schedule The Workout:

"If you fail to plan, you plan to fail."

Pick the days of the week you will workout and write them down. Try to think of the days as important business meetings that you wouldn't dare cancel.

Ideas for Exercising:

Walking

Stretching

Boxing

Yoga

Current Australian Recommendations:

2.5 - 5 hours moderate intensity physical activity such as a brisk walk, mowing the lawn, or swimming

1.25 - 2.5 hours vigorous intense physical activity such as jogging, boxing, cycling, and soccer

Include muscle strengthening activities at least twice per week such as push ups, pull ups, squats, lunges and weight training.

Remember:
If you're a beginner, please take it slowly and work your way towards the national guidelines. If you start today and stay consistent, then by Christmas you'll be up to scratch and following the recommendations. Woohoo!
